Labor Prep

An innovative approach to pregnancy, childbirth,
postpartum and the newborn experience. You will
learn the basics of pregnancy, physical changes,
labor techniques; including medicated and
unmediated labors. You also learn about the
benefits and risks of medical interventions such
as augmentation, induction, epidural anesthesia,
reasons for unplanned cesareans and more. We
will strive to ease your anxiety about your
newborn and smooth the transition to parenthood.
This is a must do class for all first time
parents birthing in the Hospital. Presented in

Planned Cesarean Class

Designed for women who have medical reasons to
schedule cesareans. This class will provide you
with much needed information about the procedure
as well as reassurance that your birth can be a
joyful and empowering experience. This program
shows parents how a medical necessity can become
a positive birth memory. Parents will learn
about the warning signs of preterm labor, how to
prepare for surgery, relaxation strategies,
anesthesia, what to expect during surgery, and
how to have a healthy recovery.

last experience. We use Penny Simpkin’s Roadmap
to labor learning about the 3 Rs; relaxation,
rhythm, and ritual. We discuss labor techniques

Breastfeeding Class

We will talk about preparing for breastfeeding,
the benefits to mom, baby and dad, the best
resources to have, the initial breastfeeding
experience, positioning and latching properly to
avoid difficulties, how to tell your baby is
getting enough, blocked ducts, sore nipples and
growth spurts, sleeping arrangements, choosing a
bra and nursing in public, breast milk
collection and storage, Florida State Law,
nursing an ‘older’ baby, some of the physiology
of breastfeeding such as supply and demand with
emphasis on mom taking care of herself and
nursing often.

ABC's of
Newborn Care

the joys and challenges of caring for a newborn.
Taught from the perspective of a Registered Nurse,
Childbirth Educator, mother of 2, grandmother of 3,
this class will show you how to read your baby’s
cues and respond accordingly. Practical
information on bathing, diapering, skincare,
stocking the nursery, and basic healthcare is
presented along with the basics of newborn
anatomy, physiology, growth and development.

WORKSHOPS
Intro
Birth Doula Workshop
Attending the Intro Workshop is optional but
HIGHLY recommended. This workshop can be taken
in lieu of 12-hr childbirth class series and
will focus on specific educational information
not covered in the Training Workshop. (workshop
satisfies one requirement for labor doula
certification).
Birth Doula Workshop
This course is for anyone interested in
assisting women and families to have a
satisfying birth experience. It is designed to
help participants become expert labor support
providers. It uses texts and supplementary
literature, video, and practical skills.
Attendance constitutes one step in the process
to become a DONA Int’l.-certified Doula (CD).
On completion of the intensive 16-hour workshop,
participants will be able to:

Identify the significance of birth to a family.

Define doula, labor support person, monitrice,
and midwife and the scope of their practices.

List benefits of a doula on obstetrical outcomes
from 13 studies.

Describe emotional and physical needs of
laboring women and their partners.

Demonstrate helpful labor positions, recognize
onset of labor and identify progress during
labor.

Demonstrate non-pharmaceutical pain reduction
methods.

Discuss VBACs and Cesarean delivery and the role
of the doula.

Describe the doula’s role in the postpartum
period.

Discuss DONA International certification and

HypnoBirthing® Support Techniques for Doulas
This is a one-day workshop that provides doulas
with the specific techniques and philosophical
information you need to professionally support
HypnoBirthing® couples in Hospital, Birth Center
or Home birth settings.
This workshop is being made available only to
professional doulas. In order to attend, you
will need to send the following documentation as
proof of your doula certification OR proof of
doula business unless you are personally
known to the Instructor.
*Copy of your Doula Certificate OR
*Copy of your doula business brochure and/or
business card AND *Copies of Proof of Birth Attendance as a Doula
Form from two different birth families.
